Per capita investment in education grow 250% during PT government

The investment of the Lula and Dilma governments in education has grown at all levels. Between 2000 and 2014, total investment as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased from 4.7% to 6.4% — and will reach 10% in the next ten years, as called for in the National Education Plan, sanctioned in June 2014 by President Dilma. With Lula and Dilma, direct public investment per student, including basic education and higher education, increased from R$ 970.00 in 2000 to R$ 4,916.00 in 2011 Discounting inflation, the jump was R$ 1,962.00 to R$ 4,916.00 per student at all levels of education, which represents a real increase of 2.5 times. That is, under Lula and Dilma investment in the future of every Brazilian more than doubled.

Federal government transfers Fundeb funds

The Lula government greatly increased the funds allocated to basic education and improved its distribution throughout the country, thanks to Fundeb. In force since 2007, the new Fund replaced Fundef, which was limited to grade school education and teacher training only. Fundeb, in turn, is for all basic education — daycare centers, kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and youth and adult education — and values education professionals as a whole. Made up funds from taxes and transfers between states and municipalities, Fundeb receives an annual federal contribution, which grew from R$ 2 billion in 2007 to R$ 10.2 billion in 2013.
