R$ 143 billion in subways, urban trains, VLTs, BRTs...
Lula and Dilma invested R$ 143 billion in urban mobility, designed to reduce the daily commute time for workers and the general population. Important projects are being carried out and planned in all regions of Brazil. There are over 651 km of rail transport facilities (subway, monorail, VLT, urban trains and airmobile facilities), 3,188 km of transport on tires (BRTs and bus lanes) and 21 km of urban river transporters.
Urban mobility has become a major national topic, especially since the demonstrations for better public services in June 2013 which took over the streets of Brazil. Dilma’s government came up with a quick response, through the PAC program. In August, President Dilma announced the Mobility Pact, with over R$ 50 billion in investments in major Brazilian cities and metropolitan areas.
Among the beneficiaries are Recife (R$ 1.9 billion), Fortaleza (R$ 2.08 billion), Salvador (R$ 2.21 billion), Rio de Janeiro (R$ 2.6 billion), Belo Horizonte ( R$ 2.5 billion), Sao Paulo (R$ 8.4 billion), Curitiba (R$ 5.06 billion) and Porto Alegre (R$ 5.04 billion)
